Swoon List #28
The people who know me well know that I love Jonatha Brooke. She’s an incredible singer, songwriter and musician. One of my favorites. So I might swoon a lot here.
I first fell in love with her when she played on Letterman back in 2001. Besides the fact that I thought she was hot in her Starsky & Hutch tee, I loved her music (I’m such a sucker for a woman with a guitar). If I’m on a road trip, her music is playing.Hell, her music is playing most of the time, whether I’m on the road or not.
But then I saw her play live, and I was really hooked. She’s wonderful to see in concert because her interaction with the audience is genuine and witty. She announced in one show that if Jennifer Lopez could change her name to J. Lo, then she could go by J-Bro. But she’s got soul, too. Her songs and lyrics are amazing to me, and she sings from the heart. Ah, that voice.
She is beautiful, charismatic, funny, and down to earth. Meeting her after a show is always a highlight, and I’ve had a few opportunities to talk to her (one of the few times in my life I can remember being truly flustered, and that’s saying something).
After one show, I made an offhand comment about wishing I could have her concert poster that was hanging in the theater display; the small theater had only made one, just to show in that glass case. Jonatha asked the theater manager, who was standing right there, and the manager took the poster down for Jonatha to sign for me. To say that made my day would be a huge understatement.
For you Dollhouse fans, you might be interested to know that Joss Whedon selected Jonatha’s “What You Don’t Know” for the show’s theme song.
Oh, plus she’s touring right now. If you have the chance to see her, I’d highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.
Welcome to the Swoon List, Jonatha.
And a video or two, just for show and tell.

So, I was bartending over the holidays last year to help out a friend (also, thank you housing market for tanking my career) when I kept hearing the song “you outta be satisfied now” on the DMX satellite radio. Of course I had to see who it was, I promptly went home & loaded up the ipod and the rest is history. She is now in constant rotation on my shuffle. Anyway, good choice :)

Kelly: Thanks! All of her music is great, but I might be just a bit biased.
