Things I love, vol. 3
I’ve been in a bit of a writer’s funk lately. I blame it mostly on the fact that I’m in the midst of a HUGE writing project at work, the kind that is causing me to work some 13-15 hour days in the past few weeks, in addition to some weekend work. That project is making my brain feel like mush, and the last thing I want to do when I finally get home is open up the laptop to write. If I can get a decent dinner made, some quality time with the kittehs, and maybe a bit of reading in before I hit the hay, I’d say that’s a good day.
But this type of post is usually pretty easy for me to write, and it actually cheers me up a little (I’ve had a very bad attitude for the past three weeks. So much so that my WBFF has given me an evil alter ego named Santiba, which he says he hopes goes away when my project is done). And if it helps me get back on the horse with writing because I love it and want it and need it, that’s even better.
Things I love. Go:
Phone calls and emails from far-away friends. Fresh raspberries. Barbecues. Turning my alarm off on weekend mornings. Hiking in warm weather. Joking around with my brother. Weekend getaways. Summer concerts. Getting home and finally relaxing for the evening. Happy hour. Shorts. Ginger ale + vodka + fresh strawberries. A cool breeze at night. Spending time with my best friend. Unexpected cards in the mail. Chips + salsa + handmade guacamole. Baseball. Collaborative creativity. Flip flops. My new favorite local market. My goddogs. Florence and the Machine.
Okay. Things you love. Go.
In the meantime, enjoy.

Things I love: rainy days when I get to stay home, Evian (a guilty pleasure), my truck, surprise visitors, unexpected letters or packages in the mail, warm cookies, free samples, magazines, bookstores, dancing, spending an entire day lounging around with my girlfriend (and that I can say “my girlfriend!”), the color yellow, The Chihuaua, my new (to me) dining room chairs, Twitter pals, the way the Tshirt I stole from my GF smells like her, Lake Michigan, Reese’s Cups, whisky, cognac, fantasy books, TV on DVD. I could go on! Thanks – how can you be anything less than cheery when you do that? I might have to do it on my own blog!

things i currently love: summer, the farmers market on saturday mornings, waking up to sunshine peeking through my blinds (and chickens squawking their brains out right outside my window), cocktails on a sunny patio with my favorite peeps, house guests, black butte porter beer, sunny days on the river (the sunburned part is not included), banana bread, falling in love with new music, getting lost in a good book.

Collapsing into a warm bed of Egyptian Cotton after a long hard day. That’s top of my list right now.

I second Kaitlin, I HEART these posts!
Sandals, summer dresses, bronzer, an open sunroof, sunglasses, @AlexRosney bringing me lattes, ipod shuffle, road trips, baseball, happy hour on a patio, making the pups froyo :)

Coffee, wine, chocolate, bourbon, butches, makeup (I’m a beauty addict), critical theory, my amazing partner, Cape Cod in the summer, a fire on a cold winter night, inspiring my students, yankee candles (I have them all over the house), beautiful shoes, the garlic and rosemary lamb lollipop chops I made Van for dinner last night, and your blog of course ;)
Good luck with your big project!

things I love: legally calling my wife “my wife”, rainy weather, rainy days, rainy weeks, rain, being able to read things again without constantly losing my concentration, being out-of-work yet getting a little money from the state; enough so we can get by, having the time and luxury to deal with my burn-out, playing sims 3, cuddling with the bunnies or just plain watching them do funny things, summer salads, arabic bbq foods, cosmopolitans my wife makes for us, diy-ing in the apartment, snuggling up to my wife when I fall asleep every single night, feeling safe with my little family and my friends
I’m grateful you sometimes ask this question out loud, G. It’s good to figure these things out :)

Ponies, Snow Leopard Kittens, biting kitten heads (very, very gently), French 75s, Four Roses bourbon, Hendrick’s gin, book smell, new paper smell, obscene perfume collections, making out, sex that renders one immobile for 12 hours min., warm tomboy skin, blaring horns in music, Rufus Wainwright’s voice, the sound of night, leathercrispdressshirtsfistfulsofsilver, longing, babies, being in awe of my own offspring.
I should stop now.

Seems you’ve really started something and it’s a GOOD thing! FFG picked up the thread on Thursday and I wrote my own list on Friday (http://scintillectual.com/?p=563 — beware, my blog is NSFW for the most part!); then last night my GF wrote her own list and gave you proper credit although she’s still struggling with learning to link :) (http://androgynonamous.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/freshly-cut-grass-and-sawdust/ —sometimes NSFW). Keep it up! It feels good to feel good and I needed an attitude of gratitude these days.
