November 11
Remember to hug a veteran today. Their service to this country, in whatever capacity, is so greatly appreciated.
And since this is late in the day, feel free to hug one tomorrow or the next day. Hug one or two over the weekend, too. Just for good measure. We always appreciate it.
I’ll blog about my experience in the Navy at some point. But suffice it to say, I loved my time in the military. I still have a soft place in my heart for those who serve. Tonight at the gym, while I ran on the treadmill and watched the ESPN SportsCenter broadcast from West Point, I teared up.
I packed my gym bag the other day, before I was really paying attention to what the date would be today. When I got there tonight and started getting dressed? I realized I’d packed my Navy PT shirt. It was perfect. I rocked that thing all over the gym. I was proud to serve my country, and I like showing it.
I wanted to find some old pics of me in uniform, but I was having a tough time locating one; I think they’re all just packed away. I wear a chain with a nice dog tag on it. It never comes off. It means the world to me and is a symbol of a very important chapter of my personal history. It’s important enough to me that I wear it every day.
I hope you all took a minute today to remember what veterans have done for us all. I believe we’re good peeps, even if I don’t believe in the war the military has been asked to fight.

Sometimes I have trouble separating ideology from practice, and I’ve been known to be wary of the military. I’m always glad to have my ignorant ass handed to me. Well, okay, not always. But at least my ass is a soft place to land.
Hug it out, bitches.

Just a reader of your blog, but I wanted to say thank you for your service to our country. It is something I feel is selfless and awe-inspiring, to have served in the military. So, thanks.

I called my grandpa yesterday, and thanked him for his service in WWII.
So often I think respect and thanks for the individuals who serve us get lost amid feelings of ire and dismay towards those in charge. And that’s a durn shame.

Wow. Somehow I missed that fact about you. Thanks for your service and for sharing something new (to me).

I’m as far to the left as one can possibly get and always felt nervous around veterans and those in the service. I rarely agree with any military action undertaken by the White House but couldn’t figure out a way to express my support and admiration for those who serve in the military. My weekend job now has given me an excellent way to do so on a one-to-one basis. So let me say to you, on behalf of all of us here at Disneyland, thank you for your service to our country. I invite to join us at our flag retreat the next time you find yourself at Disneyland. See you at 4:45 pm sharp at the flagpole at Town Square. ;)
